Betty Mae Wien
Betty Mae (Rater) Wien, 84, of Lafayette, IN passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Rosewalk Village, Lafayette. She was born August 1, 1929 in Chatterton, Indiana to the late Homer and Ruth (Kirts) Rater of Attica, Indiana.
Betty was a graduate of Attica High School. She married Lewis E. Wien and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was employed with Area IV Council on Aging as a secretary. Prior to that, she worked in the Agriculture/Economics Department at Purdue University
Betty was a member of the Congress Street United Methodist Church and the Women's Auxiliary of Tippecanoe County. Betty enjoyed spending her time reading and sewing. Betty was the founder and namesake of Bettybrook Stables of West Lafayette, Indiana. As for Betty's favorite lifelong hobby, if there is a flea market in Heaven, Betty will be there. She is survived by her daughter, Deb (husband, William) Harper, and five beautiful grandchildren: Greta, Brett, Mike, Storm and Chris. Betty had three sisters: Jessie (Stanley) Sipes, Maxine (Lurane) Lister, Frances (Merle) Kirts; and three brothers: Elvin (Frances) Rater, Donald (Orlena) Rater, and Bob Jones; many nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be Saturday, April 5th at 1 o'clock at Montmorenci Cemetery with Chaplin Tom Covington officiating.
