Brooke Nichole Lahr, 25
Brooke Nichole Lahr, 25, of Cuernavaca, Mexico, formally of Indianapolis, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, from injuries sustained in a pedestrian/car accident while in Acapulco, Mexico.
Brooke, born February 25, 1988, was the daughter of Mark and Colleen Lahr. She attended St. Gabriel Elementary School, Fulton Junior High School and Ben Davis High School before graduating with a BA in biology from Bellarmine University in May 2010. Brooke participated in volleyball, swimming, softball, and show choir in high school. She played volleyball at Bellarmine for two years. However, it was at Bellarmine during her junior year that she found her calling. Brooke was involved in a mission trip to Guatemala with Hearts in Motion through Bellarmine University. From that time on, she lived the rest of her life compassionately helping the less fortunate. Brooke worked with Passionist Volunteers International (PVI) in Honduras in 2010-11. After returning home from Honduras, she continued her selfless efforts by caring for a family member who was battling Hodgkin's disease. She worked with Connect-2-Help in the summer of 2012. She was working with Nuestros Penquenos Hermanos (NPH) in Cuernavaca, Mexico until her sudden death. Brooke's passion was to deeply connect with and help those who were less fortunate.
Surviving with her parents are two brothers, Paul and Anthony Lahr, Indianapolis; fraternal grandparents, David and Sandy Lahr, Lafayette; uncle Scott Lahr (Karen), Frankfort, Ill.; aunts Maureen Hayes (Jeff), Celeste Sexton (Ben Krug), uncle Pat Sexton, Indianapolis; aunt Cecilia Tucker (Tom), Martinsville; uncle Shaun Sexton (Joyce), Chugiak, Ark.; aunt Marti McFadden (Tim), Skowhegan, Mass.; uncle Jim Records, Whiteland; aunt Camille Sexton-Viallalta, Carmel; aunt Eileen Sexton (Joe McConnell), Arlington, Va.; uncle Mike Sexton (Sheila), Greenfield; aunt Heather Ryan (Mike), Parker, Colo.; and fifteen cousins and second cousins.
Brooke was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ed and Martha Sexton, and aunt Patti Records.
There will be a visitation Sunday, May 5 from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. at Ben Davis High School. (1200 North Girls School Road, Indianapolis) Funeral will be Monday, May 6 at 4 p.m. at St. Gabriel Church. (6000 W. 34th Street, Indianapolis).
