Catherine Martinez, 66

Catherine Martinez, 66, of Lafayette, passed away after a courageous 14 year battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.

Catherine was born to Leonard and Grace Moynihan in Lafayette on September 12, 1946.

She graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lafayette and Porter College in Indianapolis and attended IU/Purdue University in Indianapolis. She was employed at American Hoist and Derrick, Purdue University, McCord Air Base, State Life Insurance, TRW and retired from the US government with over twenty-four years working for the Indiana Agricultural Statistics Service. She was a member of The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, sang with the adult choir and was a Eucharist Minister for many years.

She had also worked as an assistant Girl Scout leader, was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. She enjoyed dancing, singing, music, reading and writing stories of poetry.

She is survived by her husband, Antonio, of West Lafayette; a daughter, Christie; a son Timothy Martinez, of Lafayette; two sisters, Dorothy Bogdanski, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Rosamond McCool, of Lafayette; eight nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew survives.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Moynihan; a sister, Marilyn Moynihan; and one nephew Christopher Bogdanski.

Visitation scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel with rosary at 8 p.m. Mass will be Tuesday, Nov. 13 at church of the Blessed Sacrament at 11 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to the mass.
