Delila M. Byrd, 73

Delila M. Byrd, 73, of Remington, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Central of Lafayette. She had been in failing health for the last three years.

She was born October 11, 1939 in Rensselaer to the late Everette and Ardath (Schreiner) Byrd and was a 1957 graduate of Remington High School.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Remington where she taught Sunday School, served as a Deaconess, Elder, Board Member and on the outreach committee.

She was Chief Probation Officer for Jasper Countyfor 22 years until retiring in 1999. Prior to that she was a legal secretary, worked for the Indiana State Police as secretary and was a Clerk-Stenographer for the Jasper Circuit Court.

Aunt Lila loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews; they were like children to her. She also enjoyed cooking.

Surviving is a brother, Richard Byrd of Remington and a sister, Donna Byrd of Rensselaer. Also surviving are her special nieces and nephews, Richard Byrd (wife: Tonya), Jeffrey Byrd (wife: Roxane), Michael Byrd, Greg Chastain (wife: Jean), Jason Levy (wife: Lisa), Nancy Yawn, Karen McCanna (husband: Mike) and Marcy Lakin (husband: Scott) and her 15 great-nieces and nephews and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 12 p.m. (noon) Thursday, September 19, 2013 at First Christian Church of Remington; Pastor Randy Sparks to officiate. Interment to follow in Wheatfield Cemetery.
