Don Eugene Draper, 85
DELPHI — Don Eugene Draper, 85, of Delphi passed away Wed., April 17, 2013, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital at Monticello at 3 a.m.
Don was born on Jan. 14, 1928, to the late Leo and Felicia (Coppock) Draper. He attended Battle Ground Schools and served in the United State Air Force during WW II, re-enlisting in the Army
and serving from 1951-1952. After basic training he was shipped to Germany and served with the engineers at the Russian Zone. He served in the motor pool for 20 Months and served as an MP on the troop ship home, after which he served in the Reserves for 5 years.
Don married Dorothy M. Lybrook on August 7, 1948, in Delphi and she survives.
Don owned and operated the Draper Garage for 40 years and worked on all makes and models of cars, trucks, tractors, police cars and school buses. Prior to owning his garage he had worked at various factories and also the Monon Railroad. He always was willing to help with advice and never turned down a phone call. He enjoyed tractor pulls and motorcycles and traveling the country.
Along with his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by 2 daughters: Larine Jeanine Draper Scowden (husb: Larry) and Lisa Gail Draper Shay (husb: Les) both of Delphi; Granddaughter, Bethany Nichole Pearson and Great Grandson, Kenneth Zane Lovvorn of Delphi. Also surviving is his brother, Wayne Draper (wife: Betty) of Rochester and Sister, Jolinda Kerr (husb: Kerly) of Akron; 2 Sisters-in law: Arzella Draper of Delphi and Ruth Draper of Lafayette and a Brother-in-law, Gene Ordiway of Monticello and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and 2 brothers: Kenneth and Dean Draper, his sister, Beth Ordiway and nephew, Bill Kirby.
Private family visitation will be from 10:30 until the private services at 11:00 a.m. on Sat., April 20, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi. Burial will be in Morning Heights Cemetery, Delphi.
He will be missed by all especially by his granddaughter, Bethany.
