Earl J. "Skeet" Heick, 77
LEBANON — Earl J. "Skeet" Heick, 77, died at 1:34 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Homewood Health Campus. Earl was born in Lafayette on May 10, 1935, to the late Kenneth Franklin Smith and Mary Elizabeth (Bumbleburg) Heick-Smith.
On June 14, 1958, in Lafayette, he was married to Nancy Carrol (Steill) Heick. Mrs. Heick passed away on April 29, 2012.
Mr. Heick attended schools in Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Marines and served his country honorably.
Following his service in the military, Mr. Heick worked for Sherwin Williams in Lafayette. Beginning in 1959, he worked at the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance office in Lebanon, retiring after thirty-seven years.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, Earl loved his children and grandchildren dearly and enjoyed attending their events. His hobbies included cooking, bowling, camping, hunting, fishing, making his own fishing lures and repairing fishing poles.
Mr. Heick was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon where, for several years, he served as an usher and attendant for the church Bingo. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Lebanon Elks Lodge
Mr. Heick is survived by his three children, Curt (wife: Kelli) Heick, of Lebanon, Marty (wife: Jill) Heick, of Decatur, Ill., and Kathy (husband: Bud) Gunter, of Fishers; grandchildren, Kaitlin E. and Kristin A. Heick, both of Lebanon, and Andrew C. and Tanner J. Heick, both of Decatur, Ill.; two step grandchildren, Bradley A. Gunter, of Camby, and Ashley N. Lopresto, of Noblesville; two step great-grandchildren, Quinten L. Gunter, of Camby, and Nicholas J. Lopresto, of Noblesville.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Nancy, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Heick; a sister, Barbara Pauline Kauffman and her husband, Jack Kauffman.
A 4 p.m. Rosary will be followed by visitation from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Myers Chapel of Memories, the Rev. Timothy Kroeger officiating.
Interment with military rites will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
