Floyd Bolyard

Floyd H. Bolyard Jr.

May 27, 1924 - June 23, 2013

Floyd H. Bolyard, Jr., 89, of rural Tippecanoe Co., IN, following a brief illness, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, Sunday, June 23, 2013. Born on the family farm May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Floyd Sr. and Zoelah (Widener) Bolyard. He had one sister, Ruth, and she preceded him in death in 2005. In 1942, he graduated from Monitor High School (rural Tippecanoe Co.) and served in the Army Air Corp in WWII (1943-45).

After returning home from the service and back to a lifetime of farming - he married the love of his life, Phyllis L. Yoder, in Mulberry, IN - August 15, 1948. She preceded him in passing - October, 1990. They shared 42 wonderful years together making many memories on their farm and in their Mulberry Community - where Floyd was a 50 year Past Master of the Mulberry 618 F & AM Lodge, Lifetime member of the Mulberry Community Club, Mulberry Conservation Club, Mulberry Men's Bridge Club, Frankfort BPOE Elks, and a member of Mulberry Trinity United Church of Christ where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Floyd and Phyllis enjoyed extensive traveling through the years, but the special summer weekends down in the woods at the A-Frame shared with their lifelong Mulberry friends and families, were their favorite - camping, frying fish, playing cards and sitting by the bonfire - a legacy that lives on through all of the kids and grandkids!

Later years would find Floyd either on his backhoe - hauling boulders out of the creek, splitting firewood, cleaning up his woods or on his tractor - mowing roadsides, checking out his crops and generally "wearing everyone else out"! His last five winters were spent in Naples, FL at the Lely Retirement Community where he was an avid Bridge player. He played Bridge 6 days a week - on Sunday - he rested - and kept up on all of his sports' games. His love for music remained strong and many residents there continually enjoyed his rendition of "Back Home Again in Indiana". His Lely friends were many, but there was nothing as beloved to him as coming home in the summers, to his Indiana farm.

Floyd was a hardworking, kind and generous man - loving father, grandfather, husband and friend. He will be truly missed by all.

He is survived by three children - Jae Bolyard Kellogg (Patrick), Mike Bolyard (companion - Cissy Leinburger), Betsy Bolyard Montgomery (Glade), and four grandchildren - Meghan Israel Burns (companion - Brian Morris), Zach Israel (companion - Elise Burns), Kendall Huffer (companion - Scott O'Neill), Brandon Huffer (Rachel). Extended grandchildren are - Scott Kellogg (Karen), Paij and Skylar Leinburger, and Kate Montgomery (companion - Louie Soffner) and Reece Montgomery.

There will be a Celebration of Life, in honor of Floyd, on Saturday, June 29, 2013 - beginning at 5:00 pm at the A-Frame. Following the service will be a cookout for all. Please bring a lawn chair.
