Frank G. Kemp, Sr., 78, of Lafayette, died Wednesday morning at his home. Born April 11, 1935 in Nashville, TN, he was the son of the late Melvin and Sadie (Cundall) Kemp. He married on January 27, 1984 in Crown Point, IN to Corene Smith and she survives. Frank worked at Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN for 29 years prior to retiring. In the early 1980's, he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Lake Station, IN. Prior to moving to Lafayette, Frank and his wife made their home in Kingman, IN. He was a member of the Indiana Sheriff's Association and enjoyed hunting, working on cars and helping others. But more importantly, he relished the time spent with his friends and family.
Surviving with his wife, Corene, are their five children; Frank G. Kemp, Jr. of Del City, OK, Sonya Picchietti (husband, Paul) of Crystal Lake, IL, Rocky J. Smith (wife, Suzanne) of Peoria, AZ, Teri Shirkey (husband, Donnie) of Peoria, AZ, and Geri Ellis (husband, Rick) of Rensselaer and his 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Frank is also survived by his seven brothers and sisters; Albert Kemp, Donald Kemp, Sandra Kemp, Ethel Simmons, Delwin Kemp, Beverly Brown, and George Kemp. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Mitchell Kemp, a grandson, Jack Shirkey, a sister, Gertrude Simmons, and two brothers, Roy and David Kemp.
The Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (E.S.T.), September 3rd at Innovation Church, 2052 Mondovi Blvd in Lafayette, IN. The family will receive friends in the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Sheriff's Association Camp for Kids.
