Frederick P. Dahnke, 80

Frederick P. Dahnke, 80, of Lafayette, passed away at his winter home in Lake Placid, Fla. on Sunday, January 20, 2013.

Born February 1, 1932, in Battle Creek, Michigan, he was the son of the late Louis B. and Hilemina (Oudshorn) Dahnke. He was a 1950 graduate of Summitville High School in Summitville. He honorably served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict.

His marriage was to Florence G. Teune on August 17, 1956, in Hudsonville, Mich. and she survives. Fred was a general contractor. He was a member of Lafayette Christian Reformed Church where he served as a past deacon. He had coached grade school basketball in the past at Lafayette Christian School for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, landscaping, boating, golfing, his dog "Fritz" and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife are his two daughters, Janice Dahnke Ryan (husband: John), of Shakopee, Minn. and Linda Dahnke, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; his son, Jerry Dahnke (wife: Jean), of Lafayette; and four brothers, Robert Dahnke, of West Lafayette, Gordon Dahnke (wife: Dorothy), of Lansing, Mich., Walter Dahnke (wife: Esther), of Fayetteville, Ala., and Herman Dahnke, of Grand Rapids, Mich. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Brent Dahnke (wife: Janice), Kimberly Telenko (husband: Nicholas), Alyssa Dahnke, Brady Ryan, Madison Ryan, Davis Ryan, and Shelby Dahnke; and two great- grandchildren, Titus and Eli Dahnke.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louie Rondinone.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home and ½ hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service at Lafayette Christian Reformed Church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Lafayette Christian School or Mayo Clinic with Cardiology Research on memo line on check.
