Gilbert E. Eavey

Gilbert E. Eavey, 80, of Lafayette, IN, died at 5:08pm Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Indiana University Hospital Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He was born November 25, 1932, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Homer and May Loft Eavey. He graduated from Clarks Hill High School in 1950 and Lafayette Business College 1956. He served in the Army during the Korean War from November of 1952 to September 1954. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Marks, in Clarks Hill 61 years ago, and she survives.

Gilbert was an accountant for the Lafayette Life Insurance Co. for 33 years. He enjoyed fishing and antiques, but Gilbert especially loved the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Clarks Hill Christian Church for over 60 years and served as an elder for many of those years. Surviving are his son, Gary Eavey and wife Sue of Lafayette, daughter Pam Eavey of Lafayette, daughter Penny Adams and husband Reed of Bloomington, sister Bertie Brown and husband James of Arkansas, sister Lola Swank of West Point, sister Ruth Anne Powell of California, grandchildren, Sarah Roth and husband Shad, Mitchell Eavey, Matthew Adams, Caitlin Adams and fiancé Joseph Groth, and great-grandchild Paisley Roth. Special cousins Robert Loft, wife Irma, and family of Dayton also survive.

Visitation will be 5:00PM-7:00PM Monday, August 5, 2013, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Services will be one hour prior to a 11:00AM funeral Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Clarks Hill Christian Church. The Rev. Steven Johnson will be officiating.
