Halden G. "John" Battleday, 86

Halden G. "John" Battleday, 86, of Fowler, died at 9:13 am. Sunday,

December 9, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Central.

He was born at home on October 22, 1926, to the late George and Gladys Bill Battleday of Rensselaer.

After graduation from Mt. Ayr High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio cryptologist.

He married Delores "Jo" Henderson on January 29, 1948. Following

63 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 9, 2011.

John retired from Stone Container and farmed for many years in Mt. Ayr.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, American Legion and

John Purdue Club. Before his health failed, he loved attending Purdue

Athletic events, fishing, camping and traveling. Above all, he loved

spending time with his beloved wife and family.

Surviving are four children, Karen Matsushima (husband: Rodney), of Occoquan, Va.,

David Battleday, of Rensselaer, Donna Dowty, of Morocco, Ind. and Mary Scott (husband: Ray), of Mascoutah, Ill.; a sister, Jean Huff, of Rensselaer; brother, Donald Battleday, of Rensselaer; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Battleday; and a sister, Janice Still.

In keeping with the descendant's wishes, no funeral services will be held.

There will be a celebration of John's life at a future date.
