Jack E. Morris

Jack E. Morris, 88, of West Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Central Emergency Room 10:22 PM Tuesday December 3, 2013. He had been in failing health since September. Jack was born in Paoli, IN. January 5, 1925, the son of the late Harold and Ethel Wininger Morris. He had resided in the Lafayette area since 1956, moving here from Marion, IN. He married Mabel I. Bledsoe at French Lick, IN. October 30, 1948, and she survives. Jack graduated from Paoli High School April, 1943, and was drafted into the U. S. Army Air Corps July 1943, serving until March 1946. He was trained in sheet metal maintenance, working on B-29's while stationed on Guam with the 20th Air Force under General Curtis Lemay. Jack retired as a carpenter, and was a member of Carpenters and Joiners Union , Local 315. He among others, he had worked for Kelley, Kettlehut and Wilhelm Construction companies. Jack was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was a founding charter member of VFW Post 8302 in Paoli, IN. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Michael G. Morris (wife Cheryl) of Lafayette, IN.; Kenneth R. Morris (wife Sharon) of Napa, CA.; two brothers, Donnie Morris (wife Gloria), Rex Morris (companion Doris), two sisters, Patricia Baker and Katie Davidson all of Paoli, IN.; a half brother Harold G. Morris, Jr. of California and a half sister, Irene Morris of Paoli, IN. Also surviving are two grandsons, Matthew Morris of San Marcos, TX. , CW2 Christopher Morris (wife April) stationed in South Korea; and by seven great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Alex, Ethan, Keegan, Nathan, Aaron and Andrew. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Veneta Morris, a brother Robert Morris and by two sisters, Norma Jean Manship and Carol Jo Brown. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 11:00 AM until the service at 1:00 PM Saturday Pastor James E. Chase officiating. The interment will be held at West Point Cemetery, with American Legion Post 11 graveside rites. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Baptist Church or the .
