James Floyd "Jimmie" Norfleet, 89

James Floyd "Jimmie" Norfleet, 89, of Fowler, formerly of Oxford and Sebring, Fla. died at Green Hill Manor at Fowler 1:30 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, where he had resided the past year and a half year.

Jimmie was born in Detroit, Mich. May 10, 1923, and attended Nancy, Kentucky High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army September 9, 1941, and served during World War II as a combat infantryman in the 1st Infantry, (Big Red One) until his discharge February 2, 1946. Jimmie received the Sicilian Campaign Battle Star, Algerian-French Morocco Campaign Battle Star, Rome-Arno Campaign Battle Star, Naples-Foggia Battle Star, and Tunisian Campaign Battle Star; the French Fourragere; the Croix-De-Guierre; the Distinguished Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters; the American Theater Ribbon; the Good Conduct Medal; the American Defense Service Ribbon; the World War II Victory Medal, and two Purple Hearts.

He was employed at A. E. Staley in the maintenance department, retiring in 1988.

Surviving are two sons, Steven "Steve" Norfleet (wife: Debbie), of Lafayette and Randy Norfleet (wife: Corinne), of Honolulu, Hawaii; and a sister, Doris Sparks, of Miamisburg, Ohio. Also surviving are four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Norfleet.

A private family service will be held; Fr. Robert Klemme officiating, with entombment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
