Jane Ann "Toots" Swartzell

Jane Ann Swartzell, age 66, of Rensselaer passed away March 21, 2013, in Indianapolis. Jane was born June 4, 1946, in Oxford, IN. She was the daughter of the late Bernard Kult and Viola (Merchen) Kult. Jane graduated from Oxford High School in 1964, then went on to earn her Masters degree in English.

On July 10, 1971, in Oxford, IN, Jane married Douglas Swartzell.

Jane was an English and Latin teacher at Rensselaer Central High School for 40 years. For 25 years, she spent her time assisting with sports functions for Rensselaer Central High School. After retiring in 2008, she was the secretary for the Athletic Department. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Business and Professional Women, and The Fellows at St. Joseph College. Jane was also a sponsor of The Sunshine Society for 14 years.

Jane is survived by her loving family, husband Douglas Swartzell of Rensselaer, son Charles (Kristen) Swartzell of Indianapolis, granddaughter Emily Swartzell of Indianapolis, brothers, Joe (Janet) Kult and Jim (Linda) Kult.

Friends will be received on Monday, March 25, 2013, from 2-8 PM (CT) at the St Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 11 AM (CT) at the St. Augustine Catholic Church of Rensselaer with Rev. Father Don Davison officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the Rensselaer Central High School Athletic Department or the Jasper County Hospital Oncology Department.
