Jearldeen (Hargis) Boas, 91
Jearldeen (Hargis) Boas, 91, of Lafayette, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital. Born July 4, 1921, in Lafayette, Tenn. she was the daughter of the late Eason Howell and Louetta (Owen) Hargis. She was a 1939 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.
Jearldeen married George L. Boas on September 1, 1940, at the First Baptist Church in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1998. She was a proofreader for the Journal and Courier for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a 50 year choir member and taught Sunday school, Eastern Star Hope Chapter 5 and Edgewood Club.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Fischer (husband: Mark), of Lafayette, Jack Boas (wife: Diana), of Greenwood, George William "Skip" Boas (wife: Theresa), of Huntington, W.Va., and Michael Boas (wife: Pam), of Dayton, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. An Eastern Star service will be at 1:45 p.m. at the church. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.; the Rev. Dr. Carl Malmgren officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery.
