Joanne Marie Hopp, 82
Joanne Marie Hopp, age 82, of Rensselaer passed away unexpectedly January 9, 2013 at her home. Joanne had resided in Rensselaer since the summer of 1964. She was born in Massillon, Ohio on June 8, 1930, the daughter of Dorsen and Mary (Hoffman) Swihart.
On June 16, 1949, in Massillon, Joanne married Joseph Stephen Hopp who passed away April 21, 1987.
Joanne proudly received her GED on June 22, 1990 through Rensselaer High School. She was employed for one year at Schumacher Electric, worked at Sealy Springs and began working at Northway Products in 1967, retiring in 1992. While employed at Northway Products she was the Chief Stewart for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Joanne was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed her movies with her favorite being John Wayne and never missed a holiday of sending cards to friends and family. Joanne always had her home decorated for the holidays and each day she faithfully fed the birds that came into her yard. Joanne loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with Summer and Ella Williamson, her great-granddaughters.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Allen) Whitaker and Debra "Debby" (John) Anderson and one son, Joseph D. (Darlene) Hopp, all of Rensselaer; four grandchildren, Michael W. (Dimple) Williamson, Indianapolis, Shane A. (Debbie Hopkins, girlfriend) Whitaker, Rensselaer, Heather (Chris) Litton, Columbus, Ohio and Joseph D. (Ashley) Hopp, Rensselaer; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (James) Mang, Massillon, Ohio and her many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph S. Hopp, one grandson, Jeff Michael Dick, one sister and two brothers.
The family will received friends at the Jackson Funeral Chapel, Rensselaer on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with rosary service at 7 P.M. Funeral mass will be held at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 10 A.M. with Father Don Davison officiating . Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the family.
