Josephine G. Martin
Josephine G. "Jo" Martin, 74, of Lafayette, passed away at St. Elizabeth East Hospital at 6:19 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Born February 19, 1939 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Grant and Pauline Grace (Whitlow) Cook. Jo was a 1956 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and graduated from Purdue with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. At the time of her death she was a supervisor at Hillenbrand dining hall at Purdue University
where she had been employed for over 30 years.
She was very charitable with the National Wildlife Fund and Wounded Veterans. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and the WWII
Memorial Society. Jo loved spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included traveling, vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, and restoring old furniture. Jo was a great supporter of Purdue sports, especially women's basketball. She was an Honor Flight Guardian.
Surviving are two sons, Steven Martin (wife, Stephanie) and Nicholas Martin both of Lafayette, a daughter, Rachel Treece of Brazil, IN; the children's father, Steven M. Martin; two grandchildren, Joseph Martin (wife, Laura) and Joshua Martin; three step-grandchildren, Johnathon, Nathan, and Jack McIntosh; four great-grandchildren; and her best friend Karen Lank of Walton, IN. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill Ann Martin.
Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial to follow at Spring Vale Cemetery.
