Lora J. "L.J." Cloyd, 91, of Vincennes, Indiana and formerly of Lafayette, Indiana died Friday, August 2, 2013, at 5:15 PM at Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes, Indiana.
Born September 18, 1921, in Rockville, Indiana her parents were Fred C. Smith and Essie Cook Smith.
She married Robert "Bud" Cloyd on August 3, 1940, he passed away May 7, 2005. They were married 65 years. Bud and L.J. moved to Lafayette, Indiana in September of 1945.
She attended Rockville Grade School and Rockville High School, graduating in 1939.
Lora Jean worked at Purdue University
in the Mechanical Engineering Department offices for 20 years, retiring in January, 1994. She volunteered at the Tippecanoe County Library, starting in 1994.
Surviving are a son: Tony H. Cloyd, Vincennes, Indiana; nephew and wife: Ed and Vicki Cloyd, Rockville, Indiana, niece: Kim Baker Laib, Evansville, Indiana and nephew: Jay Baker, Evansville, Indiana.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Fred C. Smith, Jr., who died in action in World War II in January of 1945; and sister, Betty Baker, passed away August 2008.
Graveside services: Tuesday, August 6, 2013 1:00 PM, Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, Indiana Rev. Wendy Olson officiating.
Visitation Tuesday, August 6, 2013 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM, Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, Rockville, Indiana. Burial: Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville, Indiana.
