Rev. M.A. "Father Al" McClure, 79
Rev. M.A. "Father Al" McClure, 79, Indianapolis, died Jan. 8, 2013. He was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of the late Morris Bascom and Lucia (Smith) McClure. He married Miriam Ingram in 1954. They divorced in 1977, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2006. He married Roz (Sherman) McClure on Sept. 14, 1991, and she survives.
Father Al was a graduate of Princeton High School and received his bachelor's degree from the Butler University School of Music. He earned his Master degree of Divinity from Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.
He retired in 1998 from Trinity Episcopal Church, Anderson, after 26 years of service. He also served congregations in Mount Vernon, Muncie, Evansville, Anderson, Noblesville and Carmel.
He served on the first Police Merit Board in Anderson. He enjoyed working on cars and a variety of household projects, initiating and overseeing a major addition on the home that he enjoyed with Roz for many years. His love of music was evident throughout his life. He studied brass instruments at Butler and taught high school band before training for the priesthood.
Father Al is survived by his wife, Roz McClure, Indianapolis; children, Greg (Margaret) McClure, West Lafayette; Julie (Joe) Childers, Zionsville; James (Laurie) McClure, Boston, Mass.; John (Ann) McClure, Richmond, Va.; Pam (Rick) McAbee, Asheville, N.C.; Cari Hendricks, Brownsburg; Douglas (Denise) Hendricks, Carmel; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul McClure, Franklin; Edwin McClure, Franklin; Karl (Bonnie) McClure, Franklin; sister-in-law, Beth (David) Marsh, Noblesville; brother-in-law, John (Lois) Sherman, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce McClure.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6050 North Meridian St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wounded Warriors, or to St. Vincent Hospice.
