Martha J. "Sibby" Halsema, 91

Martha J. "Sibby" (Minniear) Halsema, 91, of Lafayette, passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Mary Healthcare. Born June 5, 1921 in Rensselaer, IN, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Helen M. (Zea) Minniear, Sr. Martha was raised in Battle Ground and was a lifelong area resident.

Her marriage was to Carl J. "Whitey" Halsema on September 4, 1944 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2000. Martha was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling, word search games, watching Wheel of Fortune and the Lawrence Welk Show and eating out.

Surviving are her son, Carl A. "Al" Halsema (wife, Mary Carol), and her daughter, Sharon Baden, both of Lafayette; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, a daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and Royce Isenberg, and a son-in-law, John Baden.

The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Father Dan Gartland officiating.
