Marvin F. Johnson, 95

Marvin F. Johnson, 95, formerly of Lafayette, died Dec. 1, 2012, in Bradenton, Fla. He was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Adaza, Iowa, to Seville and Dora Mae Foster Johnson.

He graduated from Brookston High School in 1937 and continued on to earn a bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University in 1941 and 1946 respectively; and also completed post-graduate studies at Indiana University in 1950.

Marvin married Mildred L. Bates June 20, 1939; she preceded him in death November 12, 1981. He later married Camilla Hargis Muntz, whose death was July 1, 2004.

Marvin served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Breese, a mine sweeper destroyer in the Pacific, from 1943-1946. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1978 with the rank of Lt. Commander.

Marvin thoroughly enjoyed a long and respected career in the Lafayette School Corporation as a teacher from 1946-1950 then principal in Tippecanoe and Miller School Districts from 1950-1979.

In 1987, he was elected to the "Wall of Fame" of the Lafayette School Corporation.
