Mary E. Ewing 87

Mary E. Ewing, 87, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away September 14 at 6:45 p.m. at IU Arnett Hospital from the results of a fall.

Mary was born July 2, 1926, in Muncie, IN, the daughter of Ross E. and Lillian Cross , who preceded her in death.

She was married for 24 years to Clarence W. "Bill" Garrett who died in 1966. They had four children: Marilyn A. Garrett of Jacksonville, FL; Clarence W. "Bill" Garrett, Jr. and Dianne Garrett of Crossville, TN; Jane M. Button of West Point, IN. She was preceded by a daughter, Joyce E. Garrett, who died in 1955. Surviving is one brother, Harold and Virginia Cross, who live in Muncie, IN. Also preceding her were sisters, Kay Findley, Marge Donovan and Earnestine New, and one brother, Earnest Cross, whose wife, Helen, resides in Muncie, IN.

Mary was a switchboard operator at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, where she met and married Cleo E. Ewing on December 19, 1970, and he survives. Mary considered Cleo Loretta Hawley of Clarks Hill, IN, Thomas and Ruth Ewing of Mulberry, IN and David E. and Jean Ewing of Williamsville, NY, to be her children, loving them along with all the 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren of the Ewing and Garrett families.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till time of service at noon on Thursday, September 19, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel with Pastor Jeff Stedge officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Point United Methodist Church.
