Melvin L. Kahler, 96

Melvin L. Kahler, of rural Delphi, died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, December 23, at the IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Born July 12, 1916, at Francesville, he was the son of Cleo M. and Grace (Brown) Kahler. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1936. On August 29, 1942, at Rockfield, he married Gwen C. Coble; she preceded him in death, May 17, 2005. Melvin served in the US Army in WWII. Melvin lived in Carroll County 57 yrs. He was a truck driver for 23 yrs, he worked at Delphi Body works for 8 yrs, was a sales rep for Natures Plant food for 25 yrs and an insurance agent for Farmers Mutual for 25 yrs.

He is survived by three sons, Thomas L. Kahler of Marion; Jeffrey L. Kahler of Kennewick, Wash.; Richard L. Kahler of Delphi. Four daughters, Karen L. Griffith of Brownsburg; Joyce A. Hollingsworth or Collierville, Tenn.; Lynette M. Martin of Delphi, and Christi J. Bennett of Bloomington. 23 grandchildren: and 39 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; and two sisters Vera Kahler Anderson and Betty Kahler Martin; one grandson Dustin L. Kahler.

He was a member of the Delphi Christian Church. He previously had been a member of the Rockfield Christian Church where he had held the offices of trustee, superintendent, and chairman of the board. He was a member of the American Legion Post #413 at Camden, where he had served as 1st Vice Commander, Adjutant, and membership chairman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 28, at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with Pastor Nord Zootman officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites by the Camden and Delphi American Legion and the Delphi VFW will follow at the Rockfield Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. on Friday at Cree Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Gideons or to the .
