Merle J. Brier, 82

Merle J. Brier, 82, Attica, passed away at the St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at 6:20 p.m.

Merle was born in Logan Township of Fountain County, on August 1, 1930. He was the son of the late Merle O. and Tula M. (Albright) Brier Sr. He was a life resident of the Attica area, graduating from Attica High School in 1948.

Merle had farmed all of his life in Shawnee and Troy Townships of Fountain County. During the winter, Merle would work at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica. He had formerly worked at Drew's Furnace and Sheet Metal in Danville.

Merle had served in the Indiana National Guard from 1947 to 1957.

He attended the Fountain Christian Church in Portland Arch. Merle was on the Shawnee Township Advisory Board for 10 years; member of the Fountain County Welfare Board for 14 years; member of the ASCS Board for 30 years; member of the Attica Eagles Lodge 2596; member of the Battle Ground Saddle Club; Indiana Trail Riders Association; Attica Square Dance Club and the Wabash Snowmobile Club.

On December 8, 1950, Merle married Clara "C'Bell" O'Connor in Veedersburg.

Merle leaves behind his wife, Clara and a brother, Carl (Jane) Brier, of Attica; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Swanson; and a nephew, Lance Bowles.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, Nov. 23rd from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m.; Tom Rennaker officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
