Nancy R. Dearing
Nancy R. (Nevitt) Dearing, age 78, passed away peacefully February 15, 2014 at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community, Mulberry IN. Born March 20, 1935 in Goodland, Indiana to Ralph and Grace (Smith) Nevitt, she graduated from Goodland High School in 1953 and married Gary Dearing in Greens Fork, Indiana in October of that year. Nancy and Gary spent almost 35 years in Greens Fork and Richmond, Indiana before moving to Florida in 1988. In 2008, Gary preceded Nancy in death and she moved to Lafayette, Indiana to be near family and friends. Nancy was assistant postmaster in Greens Fork for several years. She was instrumental in the success of every business venture that Gary undertook, including Dearing Equipment in Greens Fork and the condominium associations that Gary managed after their move to Florida, serving as accountant, bookkeeper, and office manager.
Nancy's proudest achievement and the most important thing in her life was her family. She was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family mourns her loss while honoring the important influence she had on each one of them.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Deb (Doug) Mitchem of Belleville IL, Cindy (Steve) Newton of Lafayette IN, Sandy (Mike) Nocton of Richmond IN; and son, Skip (Roxi) Dearing of Alamosa CO; grandchildren Todd (Kathryn) Mitchem, Holli Mitchem, Amanda (Chris) Fles, Kyle (Michelle Haby) Newton, Heather (James) Davis, Mike (Janel) Nocton; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kariana and Roby Mitchem, Noah Fles, Jamison, Dayne, Eli and Naomi Davis, Mason and Oliver Nocton.
Services for Nancy will be Thursday, February 20, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, 822 North Ninth, Lafayette IN. The family will receive friends and relatives from 3 pm to 6 pm, with the funeral service at 6 pm. in Hippensteel Chapel. A private burial will occur on Friday at Greens Fork Cemetery.
The family will also receive friends to celebrate Nancy's life from 3 pm to 6 pm on Friday, February 21 at the Greens Fork Community Center, State Road 38, Greens Fork.
