Nell Alford (Finlay) Guinnup, 92

Nell Alford (Finlay) Guinnup, 92, of Lafayette, passed away at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Creasy Springs Health Campus. Born December 7, 1920 in Greenville, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert C. and Maude (Biggs) Finlay. She attended All Saints Episcopal College for 2 years and earned her Bachelor of Arts and Education degree from the University of Mississippi.

Nell married James E. Guinnup in Harrisburg, IL on August 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1986. She taught elementary school for 33 years at Miami, Durgan and Edgelea where she was one of its' first teachers. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and Chi Omega.

Surviving are her children, Connie Rubin of North Canton, OH, Robert Guinnup (wife, Rebecca) of Monticello, and Jamie Atari (husband, Ayman) of Lafayette; her sister, Laura F. Waring of Alexandria, LA; 6 grandchildren, Ellen and Alice Rubin, Sami Atari, and Lyle, Graham, and Lucy Guinnup, and one great-grandchild, Liam Atari. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Edward Finlay.

Visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, with Father Bradley Pace officiating. Burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
