Robert "Red" D. Anderson, 82

Robert "Red" D. Anderson, 82, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away peacefully at 7:13 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 2, 1930, in Rensselaer, IN, to Robert J. and Elizabeth O. (Hartman) Anderson, who preceded him in death.

Red was a 1948 graduate of Rensselaer High School who made a career in sales in Rensselaer and Lafayette. Red owned The Box Shoppe, Lafayette, and retired from his business in 1996. Red honorably served as a Sgt. E6 in the U.S. National Guard for eleven years. He was a past president of the Lion's Club, a former member of the Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce and a Masonic Life Member of the Prairie Lodge #125, Rensselaer. Red and his wife, Delores, lived, worked and traveled in a motor home across the United States for ten years. The last position he held was managing a resort on Clearwater Beach. Red was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed sports, camping, and was a fan of the Big Band era. He was a friendly, outgoing man who never met a stranger. Red will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather.

On October 16, 1951, in Rensselaer, he married his high school sweetheart, Delores (Smith) Anderson, who survives. They were married 61 years.

Also surviving are his children, James S. (Linda) of West Lafayette, IN, Kristine (Jim) Carmel, IN, Scott of Largo, FL; siblings, James A. (Ellen) of North Judson, Marjorie (Wayne) Williamson of GA, Jean Jordan of Rensselaer, Marilyn Riley of Rensselaer; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Margie Greuel of Largo, FL.

Preceding in death were his parents; one son; and one daughter.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. CST, on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at First Christian Church, 327 N. Van Rensselaer St., Rensselaer, IN. 47978 with Pastor Elizabeth Hartmann officiating. Cremation will take place. Midwest Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte (219) 362-1500 is caring for the arrangements.
