Robert "Alan" Cox, of Crawfordsville, formerly of Darlington, passed away Saturday afternoon at Lane House Nursing Home. He was 81.
He worked at Landis and Cyr in Lafayette and after retirement farmed with his son, Carl, at Cox Farms for several years. He enjoyed fishing and when he was younger he liked to hunt. He was a member of the Darlington Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge, where he was a 50 year Past Master. He served in the National Guard for 11 years. He attended grade school at Youngs Chapel and graduated from Darlington High School in 1949.
Born August 18, 1931, in Darlington, he was the son of Graydon Esias Cox and Ruth Martin Cox. He married Mary Edie Patton January 6, 1952, in Crawfordsville.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Edie Cox; sons, Marshall (Patty) Cox, of Newburgh, Carl (Kathy) Cox, of Lafayette; daughter, Melissa (Don) Barker, of Ladoga; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren as well as brother, Ed (Maxine) Cox, of Crawfordsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Gatliff.
A memorial service will be held at the Darlington Christian Church on Saturday, January 19, at 4 p.m.; Pastor Ben Hitzfeld officiating. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church.
