Robert L. "Bob" Haynes, 81
Robert L. "Bob" Haynes, 81, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette. Born August 23, 1932 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Martin) Haynes. Bob lived most of his life in Tippecanoe County, graduating in 1950 from Lafayette Jefferson High School and went on to get a business degree from Indiana Business College. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force
in 1955, having served for 4 years during the Korean Conflict
. Bob married Nancy Hilt in 1961 in Watseka, IL and she preceded him in death in 1985. Bob had worked in the Commissary at the Indiana Veterans Home for 13 years, retiring as the Commissary Supervisor. Prior to that, he had worked in the produce departments at Payless and Kroger Grocery Stores. Bob was a former member of the Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church and the Eagles Lodge and a member of the American Legion. At one time, Bob bowled in the Eagle's Bowling League at Star Lanes and the mixed bowling leagues. Bob was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving Bob are his children, Jeff Haynes, Sr. (wife, Linda) of Chalmers, IN, Norma Haynes of West Lafayette, Traci Haynes of Rancho Cordova, CA, Robert Haynes (wife, Shelly) of Rancho Cordova, CA, Cheryl Huddelson (husband, Gary) of Lafayette and Kathy Haynes of Lafayette, a daughter-in-law, Vicki Haynes of Rancho Cordova, CA, one brother, Larry Haynes (wife, Carol) of Buck Creek, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter soon to be born, Kensley Rae. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Haynes, three sisters, Lois Danaher, Rosemary Mikels, and Margie Van Osterin, and one brother, Richard Haynes.
Visitation 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 10 a.m. Monday in Hippensteel Chapel. Burial with military honors at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
