Ruth Olson, 93
Ruth Olson, 93, of West Lafayette, IN, died at 12:40 PM Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Heritage Health Care. She was born July 25, 1920, in St. Paul, MN to the late Frank and Agda Nelson. In 1938 she graduated from White Bear Lake High School in Minnesota and went on to graduate from Western Michigan University with a bachelors degree in occupational therapy. She was consecrated as a Lutheran deaconess at Bethphage Mission, Axtell NE, a home for developmentally disabled children and adults. She served as a sister there for several years until her marriage to Clarence Olson in Axtell on December 13, 1958. He preceded her in death in 1987. She continued to work at Bethphage as an occupational therapist until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and an occasional sweet treat.
Surviving is a daughter, Sara Strickler, of West Lafayette, a sister, Fran Thompson, of Monticello, AR, a brother, Rev. Earl Nelson (wife Betty), of St. Paul, MN, a sister, Viola Trinka, of Ogilvie, MN, and two grand children, Kelly Strickler of Austin, TX, and Christopher Strickler of West Lafayette. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Agda Nelson, a sister, Martha Mostrom, and a brother, Rev. George Nelson.
