Willard "Bill" L. Pearson Jr.
ATTICA — Willard "Bill" Leroy Pearson Jr., 73, of Independence died at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013, in his residence.
Bill was born on June 23, 1939, in Independence. He was the son of the late Willard Leroy and Jenieav (Steadman) Pearson, Sr. He was a life resident of Independence and graduated from Pine Village High School in 1957.
Bill married Nancy Lee (Doyle) Pearson on July 4, 1959, in Independence. She survives.
Bill owned and operated Pearson's Grocery Store in the 1960's. He then attended the America Floral Arts School in Chicago, graduating in 1973. He was the former Horticulturist for Joe Riley at the RMC greenhouse. He then became the owner/operator of Attica Floral in September of 1980 until the present.
Bill was an active member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Independence where he had also been a former board member. He helped chair the Independence Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1982 and had served as trustee to the Independence Cemetery Association for several years. He was active in the Warren County Historical Society and helped to establish Cicott Park in Independence. He enjoyed gardening and traveling, especially cruises.
Surviving along with his wife Nancy of Independence are a son, David (wife: Jamie) Pearson, of Attica; a daughter, Kathy (husband: Randy) Wellmaker, of Attica; a brother, Wilbur Pearson, of Independence; five grandchildren, Scott Pearson, twins Jackie and Jennie Pearson, Tristan and Ian Wellmaker.
Services will be held at the Riverview United Methodist Church on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Guardian Angel Hospice of Kokomo or the Riverview United Methodist Church.
