Helen K. (Ware) Leonard

Danville, IL - Helen Kay (Ware) Leonard, 63, Danville, IL, passed away at the Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, IL, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 9:40 a.m.

Helen was born in Appleton City, MO, on October 17, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Robert Donald and Eleanor Mae (Manlief) Ware. Helen grew up in Williamsport, graduating from Williamsport High School in 1969. She later lived in State Line for several years and had lived in Danville for the past 20 years.

Helen formerly worked for the State Line Café and later for six years at the Salt Kettle Rest Stop near Danville. For the past six years, Helen has worked for the Danville School District # 118 as a bus monitor.

Helen was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs and Indiana University. She was a NASCAR fan with Tony Stewart as her favorite driver. She loved the wildlife and enjoyed feeding the deer and birds. Helen was very fond of her pet dog, Black Jack.

On December 23, 1972, Helen married Jack Leonard in Attica. He survives.

Helen leaves her husband, Jack of 41 ½ years; her two sons, Bobby (Deanna) Leonard, Danville, IL and Larry (Buffy) Leonard, Williamsport; a sister, Vicki (Jerry) Koekenberg, Attica; a brother, Tim (Nanette) Ware, Hedrick, IN; three grandchildren, Taler Leonard, Tylan Leonard and Paige Leonard; a soon-to-be-born great-grandson, Casyn Leonard.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, August 8th, from 5:00 p.m. until service time at 8:00 p.m. (Illinois time-CDT) with Rev. Ann Schwartz officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Presence Cancer Center to help with the care of the wildlife.
