Kenny Paul "Duke" Davis, 69

DELPHI - Kenny "Duke" Davis, 69, passed away in his home on Feb. 15, 2014 with his children and sister Phyllis by his side. Duke was born on Dec. 30, 1944 in Rensselaer, Indiana to the late Ernest Lester and Velma Ruth (Scowden) Davis. He grew up and attended schools in Deerfield Beach, FL.

He proudly served as a private in the US Maine Corps from 1962-1968.

His first marriage was to Connie Garrison Wehner and they later divorced. His second marriage was to Elda Jane Everhart and she preceded him on Aug. 7, 2003.

Duke retired from Purdue University where he worked in the maintenance dept. He also had been employed with Reyald Painting in Florida and Jim Davis Construction in Delphi as a finish carpenter and painter.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, lifetime member of the Amvets he was also a member of the American Legion, and founding member of the Marine Corps League Michael Walter Detachment #1411in Delphi and as he believed in the Motto, Once a Marine always a Marine and Semper Fi, OO-rah.

Duke was an excellent cook and did numerous fish frys for the VFW. He enjoyed fishing and made custom fishing rods and helped in the family business making fishing lures. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, reading, watching football games especially the Miami Dolphins play, cooking and antique vehicles and collecting guns and knives; most of all Duke loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a little man with a giant heart and even bigger personality He was loved by many and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Ann Raines of Vincennes; son, Kyle Duke Davis of Delphi; sisters: Lana Weaver of Winston-Salem, NC, Cheri Marshall (Jeff) of Deerfield Beach, FL, Phyllis Moore of Delphi; brothers: Richard Davis (Wilma) of Colburn and James Davis (June) of Delphi; grandchildren: Ronald William Louden II, Matthew Riley Louden, Shantel Davis, Cheyenne Davis; great-grandson, Riley Cadean Louden; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded by his son, Kenneth Paul "Chad" Davis II in 2008.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi with services there on Sat. Feb. 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens in Pittsburg, IN. Military Graveside Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
