Clarence Melvin Starbuck passed away on November 30th, 2013 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis with his family by his bedside, at the age of 85. He was born August 19th, 1928 in Burrows, Indiana to Clarence Starbuck and wife Myrtle (maiden -Gibson). He was one of nine children. He attended school in Camden Indiana. Joined the army in 1946 and served one year in Korea. After serving his country, he came home and married his sweetheart Helen Joan Pearson on June 5th, 1948. Clarence and Joan had their four children. Clarence was a supervisor at Brown Rubber and then employed with Wolf Construction for more than forty years. He was also a member of the Laborers Union for more than fifty years.
Clarence loved to fix anything that was broken. After retiring he helped local farmers and construction companies. He also helped his sons build their homes.
For 15 years Clarence and Helen spent their winters around Kissimmee, Florida. He spent his days playing euchre, shuffle board, and horseshoes. He also spent time riding his bike. While down in Florida he picked up golf at the age of 72. Anything Clarence did he did to perfection. He became a champion at horseshoes, shuffle board and in his golf league. He also enjoyed looking after the love of his life no matter where their journey took them.
During the last year Clarence moved into the Neal home. He enjoyed his time spent here. While living at the Neal home Clarence took part in field trips, playing cards, and socializing. He also participated in what he called "old people" exercises.
Clarence was a kind and gentle person. Everyone he met knew what a wonderful and selfless person he was upon meeting him. While he may not be with us physically, here on earth, he continues to be an inspiration to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Helen Joan, Daughter Nancy Fazzino and husband Frank, Sons Ed Starbuck and wife Mary, Jeffery Starbuck and wife Ann, Tom Starbuck and wife Terri. He was predeceased by his two brothers George and Marion Starbuck; one sister Evelyn Jervis. He is survived by four sisters Viola Simmons, Sara Lane, Helen Van Lanningham and Beverly Bartunek; one brother Jim Starbuck; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Donations can be made to the Neal Home 2518 George St., Logansport, Indiana 46947 in honor of Clarence, envelopes also available at the funeral home.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Cree Funeral Home, Camden. Funeral services wil be at 10:30 am Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Dodson officiating. Burial with Military graveside rite by the Carroll County Veteran's Honor Guard will follow at the Keeps Creek Cemetery, rural Logansport.
