Dale William Andrews, 87, formally of Lafayette, Indiana, died March 10, 2013, at Marquette Manor Health Care Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Hoopeston, Illinois, on February 8, 1926, as the only child to the late Paul Henry Andrews and Myrtle Leona Benham Andrews.
Dale graduated from John Greer High School, Hoopeston, IL, in 1943, and attended technical school in Chicago, IL. He began his career with Alcoa Aluminum Corporation of Lafayette before entering the Army as a combat infantryman in 1944 during WWII. He fought in Germany where he was wounded five days after crossing the Remagen Bridge over the Rhine River. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Dale spent his entire career at Alcoa where he worked as a tool and die design technician. He retired after 39 years of service.
Dale is survived by his wife Dorothy Western Andrews, to whom he was united in marriage nearly 66 years ago in Hoopeston, IL, on June 22, 1947; his children, David Paul Andrews, and Jill (Phil) Pegram; and his grandson Alex Andrew Pegram.
Dale was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #11, Alcoa Retiree Club, and the Alcoa 25 Year Club.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, with the service to follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Arnold and Rev. James Morin. Entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Lafayette, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or charity of donor's choice.
