Donald O. Walton, 91

Donald O. Walton, 91, of Lafayette, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at St. Elizabeth East.

He was born December 4, 1921, in Lebanon, to the late Delbert and Florence Walton.

Donald graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1939, and from 1941-1946, served in the United States Army Air Corps. On July 3, 1943, he married Elizabeth "Bette" Galloway in Lincoln, Neb., where he was stationed during World War II.

Donald and Bette moved to Lafayette in 1951, where he managed Steck's Clothing Store for 32 years, until his retirement in 1983. He was always a stickler for quality in the merchandise he sold, as was apparent by his personal style, which always included a coat, tie and hat, no matter what the occasion.

Donald was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish, where he also volunteered. He was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors. In his later years, he was a dedicated walker, and, in the winter months, was an enthusiastic member at the Lafayette YMCA.

Donald was a fan of Indiana University sports and the Indianapolis Colts.

Above all, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.

Surviving is a daughter, Cindy Rice, of Lafayette; son, John Walton, of San Francisco; sister, Jeanne Burnstein of West Lafayette; brother, Jack Walton, wife Donna, of Crawfordsville; granddaughter, Amy Anderson, husband Chad, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandson, Adam Rice, fiancée, Nicole McCabe, of Lafayette; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Evan and Carter Anderson, all of Ann Arbor, Mich.

He was preceded in death by parents, Delbert and Florence Walton.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with mass 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral; Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Crawfordsville.
