Doris M. Woods, 74, loving wife, mother and grandmother peacefully passed to the arms of The Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013. Doris enjoyed a happy life with wonderful family and friends. Those who knew her are forever blessed with the memories of her love, laughter and warm generosity. Doris was born on April 22, 1939 in Pine Village, IN to the late William Merle and Hilda Hughes Hooker. She was married to William A. Woods (survives) on October 7, 1961. Doris graduated from Pine Village High School in 1957. She was employed for many years at Purdue University and Landis & Gyr (Duncan Electric). Doris retired in 1993 and moved to Port Charlotte, FL. Doris was an accomplished wedding cake decorator. She was an avid Bridge and Euchre player. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and quilting. Survivors include, daughter, Theresa J. Vandervate of Fortville, IN. Granddaughters, Breanne N. Vandervate of Fortville, IN and Brittney L. Vandervate of Fishers, IN; one sister, Lynette Gwinn (Husband: Ken) of Greencastle IN; one brother, James Hooker (Wife: Sue) of Peoria, IL; and a stepbrother, Larry Shafer (Wife: Connie) of Pine Village, IN and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon D. Hooker of West Lafayette, IN and stepbrother Joe Lee Shafer of Pine Village, IN. Visitation will be Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 10:00am to Noon at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 3305 Longlois Drive, Lafayette, IN Memorial service to follow at noon.
