Douglas A. Triplett, M.D., 69

Muncie - Douglas A. Triplett, M.D., 69, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 20, 2013, at Primrose Assisted Living Facility in Kokomo following an extended illness.

He was born on August 7, 1943 in Lafayette the son of William and Lorene (Hafer) Triplett, graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, and went on to study chemistry at Northern Park College in Chicago, IL. Dr. Triplett graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Pathology at Methodist Hospital and Ball Memorial Hospital. He also served as a Major in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Prior to his retirement in 2004, Dr. Triplett was Vice President and Director of Medical Education as well as Director of Hematology for Ball Memorial Hospital. In 1981, he became the Assistant Dean of Indiana University School of Medicine's Muncie Center. Dr. Triplett served for many years as chairman of the Coagulation Resource Committee of the College of American Pathologists and Co-Chairman of the Scientific Subcommittee of the International Committee on Thrombosis and Hemostasis. He had more than 150 articles and abstracts published in medical journals and was involved as the chapter writer, co-author, or author of 48 books.

In 2007, Dr. Triplett received the American Society of Clinical Pathology H. P. Smith Award for Distinguished Pathology Educator. This annual award honors ASCP fellow members who have had distinguished careers in pathology and laboratory medicine embracing education, research, and administration, as well as service to organized pathology. He also received the State of Indiana Distinguished Hoosier Award from Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005.

In addition to the above accomplishments, Dr. Triplett was a partner in Pathologists Associated, Inc and founded Midwest Coagulation, Inc.

Surviving are his beloved children, Danielle Triplett, Chicago, IL and Douglas Alexander Triplett, Selma and their mother, Nannette Triplett, Selma; and his brother, Randall Triplett (wife, Nancy), Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Triplett.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, in Hazelwood Christian with Rev. Colby Smith officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday or one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
