Elizabeth (Hunter) Parish, 94, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Mulberry Health and Retirement Community where she had been a resident for the past 8 years. Born July 5, 1918, in Morganfield, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William L. and Martha (Boyd) Hunter. Elizabeth graduated from Morganfield (Ky.) High School in 1936, and came to the Greater Lafayette area in 1950. Elizabeth married William J. Parish on November 25, 1939, in Dixon, Ky., and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1985. She had returned to live in Kentucky for over 30 years, coming back to Lafayette in 2005. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. As a younger lady, she enjoyed embroidery and in later years, playing bingo, listening to music, and watching the birds at her bird feeder outside her window.
Elizabeth is survived by her four children, Kenneth Parish and his wife Marci of Lafayette, Jim Parish of West Lafayette, Martha Settles of Lafayette, and Sarrah Grammer and her husband Larry of Lafayette; Elizabeth is also survived by her 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Parish, one daughter, Carlene Jean Parish Durflinger; and one sister, Dorothy Lee Christman.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 10 a.m. Wednesday, in Hippensteel Chapel with Rev. Roger Strunk officiating; burial to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Department at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
