Elizabeth "Libby" Walter, 86

Elizabeth "Libby" Walter, 86, of Rensselaer, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Rensselaer Care Center. Born September 6, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Hugh M. and Hester Ann (McGraw) Davisson, she lived in Rensselaer most of her life.

She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1943 and received her degree in nursing from Indiana University.

On September 4, 1948, she married Donald Edward Walter. He died May 8, 1991.

Together they were the proprietors of Walter's Auto Electric in Rensselaer until their retirement in 1989. Afterwards, she worked there for as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Walter was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Rensselaer, United Methodist Women and the Jolly Homemakers Home Ec Club. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her five children, Sr. Theresa Walter of Redlands, Calif., Cecelia L. Walter, of Lafayette, Donald Walter (wife: Rose), of Dallas, Ga., David Walter (wife: Nancy), of Rensselaer, and Richard Walter (wife: Christine), of Ottawa, Ontario; and her stepmother, Marge Davisson, of Colo. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kelly Beranger, John (wife: Lisa), Eric and Andrew Walter, and a great-grandson, Jackson. Three brothers preceded her in death.

Her dry wit and love lives on.

Visitation will be held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Rensselaer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Trinity United Methodist Church, Jasper Foundation or Jasper County Hospital.
