Faye K. Alban

Faye K. (Porter) Alban, 93, of West Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Westminster Village. She was born January 10, 1920 in Shelby County, Indiana to the late Robert Right and Kathryn Arminta (Duncan) Porter. She moved to Tipton, Indiana in 1925 and graduated from Tipton High School in 1937. She graduated from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis in 1941.

She married Lester E. Alban in Indianapolis on October 3, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 29, 2013. She was employed for several years as the head nurse at Link Belt Company in Indianapolis. Her late husband, Lester, was Metallurgical Engineer with Fairfield Manufacturing Company for 36 years before retiring.

Mrs. Alban worked as a Private Duty Nurse for several years, and then became school nurse at Morton and Burtsfield Schools for about 20 years, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church where she served as deaconess for several terms. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of Gideons International where she not only had served as President of the local auxiliary but had also served on the state cabinet. Other affiliations were St. Vincent's Alumni Association, Home Hospital Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association, Edgewood Club and Arachne Club. She was also a volunteer at Home Hospital.

Surviving are a son, Donald Alban (wife, Rosemary) of West Lafayette, and a daughter, Beverly Nix (husband, Tim) of Normal, Illinois. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Brian Nix (wife, Debbie) of Centreville, VA and Michelle Nelson (husband, Jared) of Edwardsville, IL; and a great granddaughter, Eve Nelson. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Pastor Dawn Bodi officiating.
