Gabriele F. Giuliani, 59
The Guest Book is expired.
Gabriele F. Giuliani, 59, passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 22, in West Lafayette, after a twelve-year battle with cancer. A native of Ascoli Piceno, Italy, he began his study of physics at the Scuola Normale in Pisa. Professor Giuliani joined the Department of Physics faculty of Purdue University in 1984, as member of the Condensed Matter Group. His field of research was the intriguing properties of two-dimensional electronic systems.
An avid soccer player to his last days, Professor Giuliani spent time to successfully coach soccer teams of all age groups at Purdue and in the Lafayette area. Other interests he enjoyed were Hammond based greasy blues, and competitive auto racing.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Wilhelm-Giuliani and their children; Daniela, Adriana, and Giuseppe Giuliani. In Italy, Professor Giuliani is survived by his mother Angela Giuliani; his brother Alessandro Giuliani and his sister Carla Cutolo. He is preceded in death by his father Alfredo Giuliani.
A celebration of Professor Giuliani's life will be held at 9 a.m., Dec. 1, in the Stewart Center of Purdue University. In lieu of flowers the family prefers that funds be donated to the graduate student's prize fund in the Purdue Physics Department or to a education fund for the Giuliani children. Arrangements by Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory.
