Gary D. Speer, 66

Gary D. Speer, 66, of Lafayette, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born December 13, 1947 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Paul Duane and Marjorie (Mullens) Speer. Gary served in the United State Air Force from 1965 until being honorably discharged in 1968. Gary married the love of his life, Donna L. Howell on September 2, 1968 in Centerville, Georgia and she survives. Gary worked for 35 years at Eli Lilly Tippecanoe Labs, retiring as a supervisor in 2003. During his leisure time, Gary enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was the proud owner of a classic 1955 Buick. Gary's honesty and quick-witted sense of humor will long be remembered by his family and his friends.

Surviving with his wife, Donna, are their two children, Mark D. Speer and Angela Speer Campbell, both of Lafayette, their five grandchildren, Wyatt Speer, Malachi Campbell, Chandler "CJ" Simons, Elijah Humphrey, and Tessa Humphrey, along with one great-grandchild, Kaydence Rusk.

With Gary being a double lung transplant recipient eight years ago at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, the family would like to extend a warm and heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Scott Roberts and Danyel Gooch and their associated staff at Methodist Hospital for the care given to Gary and his family.
