George E. Zacek

George E. Zacek, age 86, of Rensselaer, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Rensselaer Care Center. George was born July 19, 1927, in San Pierre, Ind., the son of Rudolph and Bessie (Strejc) Zacek. He was raised in San Pierre and graduated with the Class of 1945 from San Pierre High School.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired after 25 years with United Telephone Company where he was the building maintenance supervisor.

George was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Rensselaer.

He had been a member of the Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce where he served as President, was a member of the 40&8, the Rensselaer American Legion Post #29 and the Rensselaer VFW Post #1279. George enjoyed spending time with his dogs.

On February 26, 1948, in North Judson, Ind., George married Vera N. Tesmer who survives.

Along with his loving wife Vera, he is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Frank) Sanders, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Karen (Ronald) Fenwick, Rensselaer, one son, James "Jim" (Jeanne) Zacek, Rensselaer, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Friends may visit with the family Monday, November 25, 2013 from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 A.M. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Pastor Benjamin Hertel officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Animal Shelter located in Rensselaer.
