Ida Mae Bassett, 92, of West Lafayette, went to Heaven on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Healthcare. Ida Mae was born on August 22, 1921 in Moline, IL to the late George A. and Marie A. (Lewis) Whitmore. She grew up in Moline, and graduated from Moline High School. Ida Mae married Donald A. Bassett on December 28, 1940 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1988. During WWII they were stationed in Mississippi, then moved to Rock Island, IL, and to Monticello, IN. Ida Mae worked for Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello for 25 years before retiring. Ida Mae enjoyed her children, was always helping others, house projects, gardening, traveling, and volunteering. She took an immense pleasure in testing new kitchenware, recipes, and any new gadgets/appliances. Ida Mae was extremely family oriented.
Surviving are two children, Donna (husband: John) Rundell of Castle Rock, CO, and Joan Campbell of Lafayette. Ida Mae is preceded in death by two sons, Herbert Bassett, Donald Bassett, Jr. (Guy), two sisters, and two brothers. Also surviving is one sister, Jeannie McCormick of Fullerton, CA, sister-in-law Sherry Whitmore of Moline, IL, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 1st in Lafayette at Fisher Funeral Chapel (914 Columbia Street) at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., refreshments will be served after the service. Ida Mae was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Tonica, IL on June 27, 2014.
