Imogene K. 'Genie' Kirkpatrick Butler, 90

Imogene K. 'Genie' Kirkpatrick Butler age 90, died 11:55 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 following a lengthy illness, in Woodland Manor Nursing Home, Attica. She was born near Wingate, August 15, 1923 daughter of the late George M and Ada B. Counts Kirkpatrick. She was previously married to the late Roland G. Butler II.

Genie was a member of the last graduating class of Newtown High School and she graduated from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette. She worked 40 years as a RN for the Veterans Administration Hospitals, first in Long Beach, CA and in 1974 begin working in the Danville, IL hospital from which she retired.

She was a former member of the Long Beach United Methodist Church, Newtown Community Church, Quigle-Palin American Legion Auxiliary and National Association of Mental Illness. Genie was a nice, caring person.

Surviving are: A son, Roland G. 'Rolly' (wife Teresa) Butler of rural Wingate and two daughters: Linda K. Butler of Lafayette and Rebecca 'Becky' ( Denny) Benner of Fowler. Grandchildren, Ed, Rob, Kristen, Rachel, John, Michelle. A great-grandchild Cecelia. Two brothers: Robert (Jill) Kirkpatrick of Veedersburg and Kenneth (Barb) Kirkpatrick of Lafayette. Special friends, the Carol Lawrence family of Nixon, MO. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Longdon, an infant son, David, and a grandson, Danny.

Her family will receive guests 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with her funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. An interment service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Meharry Cemetery. Memorials to: Newtown Community Church or CAAP/Benton Community Foundation.
