Jack R. Sutton, age 84, of Lafayette, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at IU Health Arnett.
Born on August 9, 1928 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late John C. V. Sutton & Elizabeth (Rowe) Sutton.
He was a 1946 graduate of Montmorenci High School. He married Joanne De Long on August 2, 1963 in West Lafayette and she survives.
After graduating he farmed with his family until being drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was a small arms & tank mechanic. Jack then became a transmission mechanic specialist for Becker Automotive, Bob Basney Ford & Lafayette Police Department and retired in 1994.
He was a 62-year member of Octagon Masonic Lodge #511, Fraternal Order of Police & Moose Lodge. He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast & enjoyed restoration projects. He was a member of AMA & drag raced both cars & motorcycles during the 50's & 60's at Bunker Hill Speedway. Jack loved restoring autos with his son Jeff.
Surviving with his wife are his children: Joseph Gibson of Lafayette, Anita Robinson (husband: Tom) of Lafayette, Susan Rodman (husband: Steven) of Danville, IL & Jeff Sutton (wife: Chris) of Lafayette, 2 sisters, Edna Harner of Lafayette & Mary Ella Altherr (husband: Robert) of Albuquerque, NM, 10 grandchildren & many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings: Dick Sutton, Charles Sutton, Marie Fraley & Evelyn Howell.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 with a 7 p.m. Masonic Lodge Service at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Troy Hochstetler officiating.
