Jeff Copas, 49, of Fowler, passed away on March 20, 2014, from injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was born March 31, 1964 to Norman and Norma Copas of Earl Park, Indiana. Jeff graduated from Benton Central High School in 1982, where he was a member of the FFA. In 1984, he graduated from Ivy Tech Community College. On January 1, 2005, he married his best friend and the love of his life, Kami Freestone Byers. Upon marrying Kami, he became the stepfather of 2 daughters, Jenna and Karissa Byers, whom he adored and loved with all of his heart, just as they did him. Jeff loved spending quiet evenings at home with his wife and stepdaughters, and even enjoyed the busy rodeo season watching his stepdaughters participate. Jeff also had a passion of World War II history. Surviving with his wife and stepdaughters are his father, Norman Copas of Earl Park, one sister, Kathy Jones (companion Robert White) of Wolcott, two nieces, Arica Kyburz of Rensselaer, and Colleen Jones of Wolcott, and one nephew, Trent Kyburz (fiancé Allie Mattocks) of Rensselaer. His mother- and father-in-law, Larry and Sharon Freestone of Lafayette, also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Copas. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, beginning at 5:30 pm, and the celebration of Jeff's life will begin at 6 pm, at the Fowler Christian Church. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benton Central FFA.
