Kenneth A. Hurt, 86, of West Lafayette, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus. He was born July 29, 1925, in Thorntown, the son of the late Peter and Edith Bradshaw Hurt. Kenneth's marriage was to Betty L. Barrickman on September 5, 1947, in Thorntown and she survives.
He was raised in the Thorntown community and educated in the Thorntown schools. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, having served two years during WWII. He worked in the Heat and Power Plant at Purdue University for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He then went to work for his son, Gene, at Mr. Fence It and Hurt Apartments until retiring again in 2005. Kenneth was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving with his wife, Betty, are their three children, Eugene "Gene" (wife: Anita) Hurt, of Lafayette, Martha (husband: Ron) Jennings, of Brookston and Steven (wife: Kris) Hurt, of Lafayette; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Hippensteel Chapel; Chuck Hockema officiating. Burial to follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
