Larry George Guntrip, 73

Larry George Guntrip, 73, of Brookston, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Seton Specialty Hospital of Lafayette.

He was born October 19, 1939 in Lafayette to the late Paul Edmund and Helen (Swank) Guntrip. He graduated from Brookston High Schoolin 1957.

He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1964 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a guided missile electronics technician and was stationed on the east and west coast, Japan and Norfolk, Virginia among other places all over the world.

His marriage was to Katherine L. Mayo on August 19, 1966 in Lafayette. She survives.

Larry and Katherine lived in Zionsville, Ann Arbor, MI, Annandale, VA, Gresham, OR, Colorado Springs, CO, and Elgin, ILbefore moving to Brookston in 2006.

He worked for Electronic Data Systems, which was owned by Ross Perot, for ten years as an account manager. He then went on to work for Computer Systems Data Incorporated (CDSI) for ten years also as an account manager, and he retired in 2005 from Elgin Mental Health Center in Elgin, IL, where he worked in the IT Department.

Larry was a member of the Brookston Federated Church, American Legion Post #250 of Brookston and the Brookston Library Board.

He enjoyed reading as well as helping and training people to use their computer.

Surviving with his wife are two children; Thomas Henry Guntrip (wife: Julie) of Irvine, CA and Robyn Suzanne LaChance (husband: Peter) of Kent, WA, four grandchildren, Sophia and Chloe Guntrip and Lauren and Luke

LaChance; one brother, James Guntrip (wife: Marlene) of Brookston and two sisters, JoAnn Guntrip and Diane Guntrip both of Brookston.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. today (Saturday), May 11, 2013 at the Brookston Federated Church(202 S. Wood St.); Rev. Ruby Kleymann and Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to co-officiate. Interment to follow in Brookston Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Larry Guntrip Memorial Fund for a later good to be determined in his name.
